OBIT LEWIS, RALPH LABAN
LEWIS, Ralph Laban, 79, of Roanoke, died Tuesday morning, January 18, 1994
in a local hospital. He was born January 24, 1914 in Newark, N.J. Mr. Lewis
was a graduate of Columbia University and Westminister (now Wesley)
Theological Seminary and had a long career in the educational ministry of the
United Methodist Church. He served churches in Washington, D.C.; Hagerstown
and Cumberland, Maryland; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Laurel, Delaware. Upon
retirement he moved to Roanoke and became an active member of Green Memorial
United Methodist Church and served as a part time volunteer chaplain at the VA
Medical Center. Survivors include a son, Scott in Calif.; a daughter Lynne
Lewis of Roanoke; grandchildren, Michael and William Garnett of Roanoke, and
Julia Oliveria, Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren. Mr. Lewis was
preceded in death by his wife, Margaret and daughter, Lauren. Funeral services
will be conducted from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 21,
1994 with the Rev. Walter M. Lockett Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in
Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday.
