OBIT HITE, WILLA BONDURANT
HITE, Willa Bondurant, 372 Hanley Circle, Danville, died Wednesday, January
19, 1994, at her residence. She was born at Leatherwood, Virginia on July 14,
1910, a daughter of George Edwin Bondurant and Lucy Allen Bondurant. Mrs. Hite
graduated from George Washington High School, received a B.S. degree from
Longwood College and a Master's Degree from Columbia University. From 1941 to
1953, Mrs. Hite was at Bellvue Elementary School, first as a teacher and then
as a principal. She became principal of the G.L.H. Johnson Elementary School
in 1953 and was there until she became Director of Elementary Education in
1965. Mrs. Hite retired in 1976. She was married to the Rev. Jesse R. Hite,
who died April 17, 1981. Mrs. Hite was a member and former Sunday School
teacher of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, member of the Epsilon
Chapter of Delta Kappa Gammon, the Wednesday Club, and the Book and Art Club.
She is survived by a sister, Nell Motley of Roanoke, Virginia. Graveside
services will be held on Friday, January 21, 1994, 11:30 a.m. from Highland
Burial Park by the Rev. John LeGault Jr. The family of Willa Bondurant Hite
request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Vernon United
Methodist Church, 107 West Main Street or Danville Life Saving and First Aid
Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, Va. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements and the family will be at the residence.
