OBIT STURGILL, BRADLEY E.
STURGILL, Bradley E., 93, of Grassy Creek, N.C., passed away Tuesday,
January 18, 1994, at the Seagraves Care Center, Jefferson, N.C. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Ocie Phipps Sturgill on December 6, 1988. Mr.
Sturgill was born August 17, 1900, at Ashe County, N.C. (Chestnut Hill
community) to Gordon David and Nora Virginia Vaught Sturgill. He was a member
of Grassy Creek United Methodist Church and also Mouth of Wilson Masonic Lodge
#221 AF & AM. Mr. Sturgill was owner-operator of Sturgills General
Merchandise, Grassy Creek, N.C. for 45 years. Served on the Ashe County School
Board for 16 years. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Oleen Boyer of the
home; three sisters, Mrs. Freece Richardson Jupiter, Fla., Mrs. Gladys Kester,
Mrs. Zeffa Little both of Jefferson, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Violet
Sturgill, Christiansburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Marcia Barnard, Mark Boyer
both of Stuart, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Renae Lynn Barnard, Jason
Barnard both of Stuart, Va. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m.
Saturday, January 22, 1994, at the Grassy Creek United Methodist Church with
interment in Grassy Creek Cemetery. Rev. Peter Parish officiating. The body
will lie in state at the church thirty minutes preceding service. The body
will remain at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., where the
family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic rites to be
conducted at graveside of Mouth of Wilson Masonic Lodge #221 AF&AM. Flowers
will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made o the Grassy Creek
United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Margaret Graybeal, Rt. 2, Box 322, Mouth of
Wilson, Va. 24363. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. in charge
of arrangements.
