PEDIATRICS CENTER GETS GO-AHEAD

The Roanoke Architectural Review Board has approved the construction of a pediatrics center in Old Southwest.

The two-story brick building will be at Franklin Road and Woods Avenue, next to Anderson & Reed, Certified Public Accountants.

The building will house and consolidate Pediatrics Associates of the Roanoke Valley, which has offices on Jefferson Street and Starkey Road.

The board approved the concept last month but held off on the formal approval until the architects made revisions.

After architect Barry Marsh outlined the changes Thursday, the board quickly approved the project.

"It looks like a fine project," said board member Tim Jamieson.

Kent Chrisman, a member of Old Southwest Inc., said Thursday that most of the neighborhood's earlier concerns about the project have been eased by the revisions.

The Old Southwest group closely monitors development in the neighborhood.
