DENOMINATIONAL LINES TO BE CROSSED FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

A pulpit exchange will culminate the WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY, Sunday, when Radford and Fairlawn ministers will cross denominational lines to preach in other churches to emphasize Christian unity.

The weeklong, ecumenical observance has been sponsored annually by the Radford-Fairlawn Ministerial Association.

The program, "Our Common Ministries of Love," has focused on the association's shared community ministries. Among these are Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread, the Radford Clothing Bank and the Radford Food Pantry.

\ CHRISTIANSBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 107 W. Main St., also will recognize the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at its 10:55 a.m. service Sunday.

The church will hold its annual congregational meeting Sunday, Jan. 30 at its 10:55 a.m. service.

\ ST. JUDE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH will complete its move from temporary quarters at the former Holdren's appliance store in Fairlawn today, if the weather cooperates. Services now are being held at the church's new, but still incomplete, building off Tyler Road (Virginia 177), just outside the Radford city limits.

The schedule of services remains the same: Saturday Mass is at 5:15 p.m.; Sunday Mass is at 11 a.m.

Services are being held in the fellowship hall at the new building.

\ BOB and SANDY MULLINS of Second Chance Ministries will begin their 1994 round of appearances Jan. 29, 7 p.m., at Lords Full Gospel Mission in Pilot.

Jan. 30, they'll sing at services of the Calvary Assembly of God, which meets in the Marriott Inn, Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg.

That evening at 7, the duo will be at New River Community Holiness Church, which Bob used to attend as a youngster.

The SOUTHERN STATESMEN will be in concert Feb. 6., 6 p.m., at St. John's Fellowship, 710 Church St., Christiansburg. The church is right behind the Cambria Post Office.

The music committee at COPPER HILL CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN will sponsor a Fifth Sunday Night singing program Sunday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.

Church names in the news:

The REV. STEVEN R. EMORY will become pastor of First Baptist Church in Pulaski this month. He'll take over for the Rev. John W. Tresch Jr., who has been interim pastor for 11 months.

Emory, 33, is now minister of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Norton.

In his new post, he succeeds the Rev. James Sorrell, who died in 1992.

The REV. RAY ALLEN of Blacksburg Baptist Church and TOM PROVOST, director of the Department of Partnership Missions for Virginia Southern Baptists, are spending January in three foreign mission projects.

They were scheduled to go to Cyprus this week for a Baptist World Alliance meeting on Third World mission work to join with Baptist leaders from throughout the world.

Before returning to Blacksburg, Allen and Provost also will meet with Croatian and Hungarian Baptists in Switzerland to map plans for work in those countries.
