HALL TO BE PRESIDENT OF VA. REALTORS

Edwin C. Hall, a Roanoke commercial realty broker, will be installed tonight as president of the Virginia Association of Realtors.

The ceremony will conclude the association's January business meeting in Richmond. With about 26,000 members throughout the state, VAR is the state's largest trade organization.

Hall is president of Edwin C. Hall Associates Inc., the largest commercial and industrial real estate firm west of Richmond. The company trades as Hall Associates Inc.

Hall, who has been on the association board for 12 years, said the presidency is an opportunity "to try to put something back in the industry that I've been fortunate to take out."

His primary goal is to improve the group's work in public affairs. The association just increased its budget for that purpose 40 percent.

"Our No. 1 goal is to have our voice heard at the Virginia General Assembly," Hall said.

The VAR program consists of what Hall called "a number of small pieces" instead of a single major issue.

One is development of the Disney project in northern Virginia; another is to pay just compensation and perform a cost-benefit analysis for property owners affected by such projects as the Chesapeake Bay Act.

He also would like to see limits on costs that affect the price of buying a home, such as high recording and transfer taxes and fees for water, sewers and streets.

Hall began his real estate career in 1967 as a property manager with C.W. Francis & Son Inc. In 1975, he became a partner and vice president of Glasgow Realty Investment Management Co., which became Hall Associates two years later.

Hall was the Virginia association's Realtor of the Year in 1990.

He was Realtor of the Year of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors in 1978 and president of the association in 1988. Hall also has served on numerous local, state and national committees.

He holds seven professional designations: Graduate Realtor Institute, Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, Certified Property Manager, Certified Commercial Investment Member, Counselor of Real Estate, Certified Residential Broker and Registered Apartment Manager.
