ALLEN DEFENDS STATE'S `INVESTMENT' IN ROADS FOR DISNEY PROJECT

Gov. George Allen brushed aside criticism Friday that road projects and other improvements worth more than $150 million for the Disney's America theme park are too generous.

"I look at it as an investment," Allen said at a Republican National Committee meeting.

Allen's remarks came a day after he briefed legislators on a study that says the American history theme park in Prince William County near Haymarket would bring about a 40 percent return on investment for Virginia.

Lawmakers have said support for the plan has momentum, despite opposition from groups that the state is giving up too much and that the chief return on its investment will be clogged highways and other problems. - Associated Press
