OBIT CLAYTOR, KATHERINE PARR

CLAYTOR, Katharine Parr, 97, of Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, and formerly of Bedford, died quietly in her sleep on January 20, 1994. She was born in Bedford on June 29, 1896, a daughter of the late Andrew Boyd Claytor and Lucy Parr Claytor. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew Boyd Claytor, Jr., William Graham Claytor, Francis Parr Claytor, and Robert Mitchell Claytor. Her life was devoted to the care of her invalid brother, William G. Claytor. During that time she was instrumental in the formation and development of Southern Flavoring Company. She was active in garden clubs, trail clubs, and outdoor activities in the Bedford area. She was a lifetime member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Bedford. She is survived by her sister, Mary Fred Claytor, also of Westminster Canterbury; six nieces and nephews, Imogen Claytor Withers, Winston Salem, N.C., Andrew Boyd Claytor III, and Suzanne Claytor Gilbert both of Bedford, William M. Claytor, Roanoke, Robert Claytor of Staunton, and Camille Claytor Stewart, Charleston, W.Va. Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, January 23, 1994, 1:30 p.m. at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Bedford, and also at Westminster Canterbury, Sunday at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. James A. Creasy officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Johns Episcopal Church Columbarium. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church or your favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
