Grand Piano and Furniture Co. in Roanoke has promoted two of its staff to vice presidents.

\ WYLIE E. WALTON has been named vice president-administration. Walton, who has directed the company's credit and operations support efforts, will be responsible for all aspects of the 22-store chain's overall operations services. He has been with Grand Piano for 18 years.

\ STEPHEN G. DAVIS has been appointed vice president-advertising. Davis previously was advertising manager. In his new position he will be in charge of the chain's advertising and promotions. He has been with the furniture company for nearly 13 years and has been in advertising for 22 years.\ BANKING

Charter Federal Savings Bank has hired\ JAY WILLIAMS as assistant vice president and branch manager of its Tanglewood office. He has 16 years of banking experience and previously was an assistant vice president for First Union Bank of Virginia in Salem.

\ ANNE SHORE has joined Charter Financial Services as an investment executive at the Tanglewood branch. Formerly with PaineWebber, she has more than 11 years of experience in annuity sales and brokerage services.

\ GWEN HESS GODFREY has joined Charter Financial Services as an investment executive at the Blacksburg branch. She formerly was associated with Central Fidelity and Dominion Banks.

\ JERLENE JONES has been promoted to assistant vice president and sales manager of Charter Financial Services. She joined Charter Federal as an investment executive in 1992 and before that was with the New England Financial Group for six years.

At Central Fidelity Bank in Roanoke,\ BRAD E. MULLINS has been promoted to vice president of the southwestern region. The Salem native joined Central Fidelity in 1993 as vice president of the financial services group. He previously worked for One Valley Bank in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Also at Central Fidelity,\ PATRICIA M. McCOY-STRAIN has been named assistant vice president. She joined the bank in 1993 and is employee benefits administrator.\ BEVERLY D. ST. CLAIR has been promoted to branch manager of the Plantation Road office. The Troutville resident has been employed by Central Fidelity for 13 years.

At the Bank of Buchanan,\ MICHELLE A. ALEXANDER has been promoted from management trainee to marketing and Community Reinvestment Act officer. Also,\ BRENDA G. DeHAVEN, the bank's internal auditor, has been promoted to bank officer. At the Daleville office,\ ANDREW T. SHOTWELL has been promoted from assistant cashier to assistant vice president and branch manager. Also,\ JUDY C. DILLON and\ SHIRLEY B. LAMBERT have been named mortgage loan officers.\ \ COLLEGES and UNIVERSITIES

\ DEBORAH L. JONES, associate dean of admissions and financial aid at Emory & Henry College, has been selected to be an adviser to the board of directors of the Corella and Bertram Bonner Foundation based in Princeton, N.J., which funds a scholars program at Emory & Henry and other institutions. He represents the perspective of financial aid officers at participating colleges.\ \ COMMUNICATIONS

\ DAVID WAMPLER has been appointed business operations manager for the newly created Blue Ridge Interconnect of CableRep Advertising, a division of Cox Cable Communications. His responsibilities include management of the business office and technical operation, staff development and cross-training, strategic analysis and research, and preparation of budgets and business plans. He has been a staff accountant for Cox Cable Roanoke since 1992.\ FINANCIAL

\ MICHAEL A. "ANDY" WILLIAMS has joined the Roanoke office of J.C. Williams Bradford & Co. as an investment broker. Williams was president and owner of Gallery 3, a retail art business, from 1973 to 1992. He is a past president of the Roanoke Area Market Association and has been on the boards of the Roanoke Valley Merchants Association, Downtown Roanoke Inc., the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Roanoke Valley Chamber Convention Bureau.\ \ HEALTH CARE

\ JASON YOUNG has been named administrator of Avante at Roanoke, a health-care facility. He comes to Avante from Meridian Health Center in Salisbury, N.C.

\ DRS. LOWELL GILBERT and\ EDWARD GILBERT will be offering visual care services by appointment in the office of the late\ DR. CONRAD L. SANGER in Lexington until a permanent optometrist can be secured. Both are members of the Valley Optometric Society.\ \ MANUFACTURING

\ JAMES F. GARLOW of John W. Hancock Jr. Inc., Salem, has been elected president of the Steel Joist Institute, an association of steel joist manufacturers based in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The institute is a nonprofit organization that helps develop building code regulations throughout the country regarding steel joists and joist girders.

\ GAIL V. CLARK of Stuart has been appointed sales director of commercial and government products at Aerial Machine & Tool Corp. in Vesta. Clark was formerly sales manager for commercial products. She joined Aerial in 1988 as office administrator. In 1989 her job responsibilities were expanded to include commercial sales.

Also at Aerial,\ JOHN RICCITELLO has been named executive vice president. The Meadows of Dan resident previously was vice president of operations for the company. He joined Aerial in 1986 as manufacturing manager. Before that, he spent 11 years in the U.S. Air Force in various flying capacities. He is a licensed general aviation pilot.\ \ ORGANIZATIONS

\ JEFF NORMAN of Moore's Lumber & Building Supplies has received the Associate of the Year Award from the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc. The Builder of the Year Award was given to\ BOB FETZER of Building Specialists Inc. The association is a nonprofit professional trade organization whose members include home builders, home manufacturers, developers, remodelers, suppliers, subcontractors, professional, manufacturers and utilities representatives.
