MAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER HE SHOOTS HIMSELF IN LEG

A 23-year-old man who accidentally shot himself in the right leg Friday night remained in stable condition Saturday at Montgomery Regional Hospital, a spokeswoman said.

As Bernard Delano Jordan loaded a newly purchased .22-caliber pistol, it discharged and wounded him, according to Blacksburg police. Home alone, Jordan called authorities for help. A Blacksburg Rescue Squad crew transported him to the hospital.

"Mr. Jordan had been drinking at the time" of the shooting, according to a press release from police Sgt. H.L. Vaughan.

Police charged Jordan with reckless handling of a firearm. He is to appear March 17 in Montgomery County General District Court.

Police did not provide Jordan's address or where he had purchased the weapon.
