EX-REDSKINS QB HIRED AS AIDE AT NAVY

Doug Williams, who led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl victory as their quarterback, has been hired as an assistant football coach at the Naval Academy.

Williams, the Most Valuable Player in the 1987 Super Bowl when he led the Redskins to a 42-10 victory over the Denver Broncos, will coach the Midshipmen's running backs, said head coach George Chaump.

Williams set four records in Super Bowl XXII - most yards passing in a game (340), most yards passing in a quarter (228), most touchdown passes (four) and longest completion (80 yards).

He then played two more seasons with the Redskins, giving him nine years in the NFL.

Williams replaces Frank Hickson, who resigned in January to accept a position at South Carolina. Williams played college football at Grambling State.
