OBIT WOOD, ALDEN HAROLD
WOOD, Alden Harold, 70, of Floyd, passed away Friday, January 21, 1994, in
a Roanoke hospital, after an extensive battle with cancer. Born in Patrick
Co., November 11, 1923, Mr. Wood lived most of his life in Floyd County and
was a master wood craftsman and cabinet maker. His life centered around his
family and his love of antique restoration and display of his collection. He
served Floyd residents on Rt. 3 and Rt. 2 as a U.S. Postal mail carrier before
his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Mountain
View United Church and attended Tuggles Gap Baptist Church. He is survived by
his wife, Alzora Huff Wood, Floyd; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don
Gardner, Floyd; one son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Peggy Wood,
Christiansburg; one granddaughter, Ashlee Gardner, Floyd; two grandsons,
Darren Wood, Christiansburg, Adam Gardner, Floyd; two stepgrandsons, Jonathan
Evans, Bristol, Chris Evans, Christiansburg; one stepgreat-granddaughter,
Adrian Evans, Bristol; three sisters, Claudine Belcher, Floyd, Lorna Conner,
Floyd, Ruth Martin, Riner; two brothers, Joe Wood, Dublin and Charles Wood,
Floyd; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday,
January 23, at Gardner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Blackwell, the Rev.
Leonard Arnold and the Rev. Glenn Griffith officiating. Interment will follow
in Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday at Gardner
Funeral Home, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening. Family
members appreciate flowers or donations may be made to the Floyd County Rescue
Squad.
