HENRY COUNTY MAN WOUNDED IN SHOOTING

A Henry County man was in satisfactory condition Sunday night after being shot Friday night while visiting an area noted for drug dealing.

Charles C. Galloway, 22, and a cousin were in the Sandy Level area of Henry County, Sergeant S.C. Roop of the Henry County Sheriff's Office said.

The cousin, who has not been identified, told Sheriff's Office officials that he and Galloway were having a conversation when two people approached them and asked them for money.

Galloway said he didn't have any, turned around, and was shot in the back, Roop said.

Two unidentified people took Galloway to hospital in North Carolina and left him in the emergency room. He was later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, Roop said.

Roop said Sandy Level, commonly known as Logtown, is notorious for drug dealing, particularly for the buying and selling of crack cocaine.

Roop said the Sheriff's Office has increased patrols in the Southeast corner of Henry County and a community organization is forming to try to end violence and drug activity.

Roop said the Sheriff's Office has a suspect in this shooting, one of several in Sandy Level in the past year.
