ICE-RELATED CRASH KILLS HARDY MAN, 35

Residual ice from last week's storm caused the death of a Bedford County man Saturday night.

Clifton D. Lafferty Jr., 35, apparently hit a patch of ice while driving east on Virginia 634 near Hardy, state police said. Lafferty's pickup truck went out of control and struck a utility pole.

Lafferty, of Hardy, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died.
