OBIT DEERING, ELGIN LUTHER

DEERING, Elgin Luther, 73, of Route 1, (P.O. Box 249), Goshen, died Sunday morning, January 23, 1994 in Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was associated with the Boy Scouts for 60 years and started the troop at St. John's United Church of Christ in Dunkirk, N.Y. A Boy Scout Executive for 31 years, as part of his duties, he located, developed and managed the Goshen Boy Scout Camp for the National Capitol Area Council of The Boy Scouts of America. Surviving are a son, David E. Deering of Waynesboro; two sisters, Florence Swanson of Dunkirk, N.Y. and Pearl Zebrasky of Fredonia, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jean Dungan Deering. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Goshen Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Haney and the Rev. Richard M. Landis. Burial will be in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hamrick Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening.
