OBIT WELLS, ROY LEON
WELLS, Roy Leon, 101, of 512 8th Street, Altavista, died Saturday, January
22, 1994 in the Gretna Health Care Center. he was the husband of the late Eula
Simpson Wells. Born May 30, 1892 in Wytheville, he was the son of the late
John Jackson and Ella Tunstall Wells. He was a member of First Baptist Church
in Altavista, attended the College of William and Mary, and was retired from
Altavista Journal as a printer. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a
member of the American Legion Post #232 in Gretna. Mr. Wells was also employed
for Norfolk Southern Railway during his earlier years and was a traveling
salesman which took him to most of the 48 states. He is survived by one son,
John J. Wells of Gretna; one daughter, Carleen W. Yates of Hampton; four
grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son
Dr. William T. Wells. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in
Finch & Finch Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Roland Johnson and the Rev. Bob Dunn.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 4165,
DAV Chapter 46 and American Legion Post 232. The family will receive friends
Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the
residence of John J. Wells, 205 Franklin Blvd., Gretna.
