OBIT RAMSEY, D. WOODSON JR.
RAMSEY, D. Woodson Jr., of Delray Beach, Fla., died Sunday, January 23,
1994. He was born June 9, 1909 in Sydnorsville, area of Franklin County, the
son of D.W. Ramsey and Minnie Florence Matthews. He attended public schools in
Franklin County, graduated from Roanoke College in 1928 with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Economics. He entered Foreign Service Dept. Standard Oil
N.J. and was assigned to Latin America. During World War II he was attached to
General Eisenhour's Staff in North Africa supervising supply of petroleum
products to British, American and French forces. At the end of World War II he
was assigned to Central Europe to assist in restoring company businesses which
had been destroyed. After 20 years abroad working and living in the major
countries of the world, he returned to New York and was named co-coordinator
of World Wide Marketing of Standard Oil. At the time of his retirement, he was
Vice President and Director of Exxon U.S.A. He was a Trustee of Roanoke
College which awarded him Honorary Degree of Commerce in 1975. He was
instrumental in bringing Olin Hall to Roanoke College and in the formation of
the Associates program. Mr. Ramsey is survived by his wife, Frances; his
daughter, Dr. Ann W. Ramsey, whose mother Ersel D. Ramsey died in 1986; two
brothers, Rev. Clifford Ramsey and James T. Ramsey. A memorial service will be
held at a later date.
