ANTI-SEMITIC ACTS UP 8% IN 1993, GROUP SAYS

Anti-Semitic acts were up 8 percent in the United States last year and included more than 1,000 incidents of "in-your-face" assault and harassment, the Anti-Defamation League said.

Reports of vandalism dropped 8 percent.

There was a 23 percent jump in assaults and harassment, while anti-Semitic acts against people and property rose 8 percent, the league said in a survey released Monday.

The ADL reported 1,867 anti-Semitic incidents in 1993, the second-highest number in the survey's 15-year history. The highest was 1,879 in 1991; in 1992, the total was 1,730.
