CHARLESTON SOUTHERN UPSETS RADFORD 75-71

Once again, it was upset time for Radford.

Only this time, the Highlanders were the giants that fell as Charleston Southern, the last-place team in the Big South, defeated Radford 75-71.

It was the first win for the Buckaneers in the North Charleston Coliseum. They had gone 0-7 over the past two years in the coliseum.

The win also snapped a six-game winning streak for the Highlanders, who earlier this season defeated LSU in Baton Rouge, La. Radford (12-4 overall, 6-2 Big South) had won 11 of its past 12 games and 12 of its last 13 meetings with Charleston Southern.

The Highlanders led 44-32 at halftime and 57-41 five minutes into the second half. The Bucs held Radford without a field goal for the next 6 minutes, 11 seconds and cut the lead to 60-56. Charleston Southern (4-10, 2-5) took the lead with a steal and layup by Maurice Colburn.

After the Highlanders regained the lead, T.L. Latson put the Bucs up for good with two free throws to give them a 70-69 lead. Eric Burks sank two free throws with 11 seconds left to seal the win for Charleston Southern.

Radford had 13 second-half turnovers, as opposed to six in the first half, and allowed the Bucs to grab 10 offensive rebounds in the second half, as opposed to three in the first.

"For some reason, we got really tentative against their full-court pressure in the second half and against their halfcourt pressure we just panicked," said Radford coach Ron Bradley. "I'm not really sure exactly what happened. We could see the panicked look in our guys' eyes but we couldn't seem to get it out."

Don Burgess scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Highlanders.

Burkes paced the Bucs with 22 points, and Latson had 20.
