Lucky that the child was not hurt, and lucky that her other child was not in the room.
"I had just got off the phone with my husband," she said. "It just freaked me out. I'm just scared to death to be in this apartment. I don't know which ceiling is going to be next."
Meador said Justin Corey Wayne Meador was lying in his crib Monday morning while she was taking a bath. Suddenly, she heard a "boom" in the room where he was sleeping.
She frantically called 911, then started clearing away the tile remnants, metal and plaster that fell when the ceiling collapsed.
"I was able to move some of it," Meador said. "I was able to get to him."
When Roanoke firefighters and rescue workers arrived, she had the baby cradled in her arms.
Authorities believe a water leak in the apartment on 13th Street Southwest had eroded the original ceiling and falling plaster collapsed the suspended ceiling.
Meador said that although there are no visible injuries to the baby, she will take him to the hospital today to have him checked out.
