RSVP GROUPS HAVE FUN DOING GOOD

Do all the good you can,

By all the means you can

In all the ways you can,

In all the places you can,

At all the times you can,

To all the people you can

As long as ever you can.\ - John Wesley's rule

Just in case one of your New Year's resolutions hasn't worked out and you're looking for a replacement, resolve to contribute some time and energy to the RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP).

Participants bring cheer and conversation to nursing home residents. They package bulk foods for the SHARE food program. They go out to lunch, help with mailings, sponsor birthday parties, hold bake sales, call shut-ins and serve in the community in many valuable ways.

There are several RSVP groups in the New River Valley, and transportation is provided for those who need it.

Monthly covered-dish luncheons are held in Shawsville the first Monday of each month at White's Memorial Church and in Christiansburg on the second Tuesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Residents of adult home join RSVP volunteers and staff for a time of food and fellowship.

The RSVP office prints a monthly calendar of activities. Most items will be listed weekly in this column, but since there may not always be space for everything, please check with Jo Lambert or Victoria Scott at the RSVP office, 382-5775.

The Virginia Center for Active Retirement (C-FAR) is holding what they promise will be a fun and stimulating presentation on "HOW TO DISAGREE WITHOUT BEING DISAGREEABLE," on Feb. 2, 9-11 a.m. in Conference Room F of the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center at Virginia Tech. Cost is $5. To register or find out more information, call 231-5183.

The C-FAR office is donated by and located in the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center. The organization presents topics of interest to seniors, called Wednesday Wonderings, the first Wednesday of each month.
