STATE AGENCY AWARDS 4 ROAD CONTRACTS

The Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded four contracts to improve roads and bridges in the New River Valley:

In Montgomery County, edge drains will be installed on eastbound U.S. 460, and the pavement will be repaired for seven miles - from Virginia 808 to Virginia 649.

Adams Construction Co. of Roanoke is contractor for the approximately $1.18 million project.

In Floyd County, one mile of Virginia 799 will be widened slightly and paved with asphalt. J.C. Joyce Trucking and Paving Co. of Patrick Springs was awarded the approximately $191,400 contract.

In Pulaski County, the bridge at Virginia F064 over Interstate 81 will be repaired and the bridge deck resurfaced. Lanford Brothers Co. Inc. of Roanoke is contractor for the approximately $82,000 project.

In Giles County, a temporary bridge on Virginia 724 at Chapel will be replaced under a nearly $370,900 contract awarded to Fort Chiswell Construction Corp. of Max Meadows.

The Transportation Department advises motorists to slow down and drive with extra caution through all highway construction zones. Motorists caught speeding through work zones are subject to fines of up to $250.
