The program would involve a minimum of15 businesses, with five during any given month in each of two area newspapers and the remaining five in the Country Register, a specialty publication distributed free in seven states.
The actual businesses mentioned in each of the three major downtown Pulaski ads would rotate each month.
Robin Poteet, an advertising professional working on a volunteer basis with the Alliance, told other members of the group at its meeting Tuesday morning that the participating businesses needed to be lined up fairly soon.
They were. She and other Alliance members hit the streets after the meeting and quickly found a dozen participants.
``It really didn't take as much effort as we thought. People were very receptive to it,'' she said Tuesday afternoon.
``You have to make a three-month commitment. That's the only way this is going to work,'' Poteet had said at the meeting. ``This is basically a vehicle to advertise your stores.''
Poteet, who operates an agency in Snowville, said 15 was the minimum number it would take to make the project cost-effective. Now there are only slots for three more participants on this round of advertising.
The Alliance is raising money to help with continued advertising of downtown Pulaski. Currently, participating businesses are selling $1 tickets on a $300 Valentine's Day shopping spree in downtown Pulaski.
The winning ticket for the shopping spree will be drawn at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Old Courthouse lawn on Main Street by Pulaski Mayor Gary Hancock.
The next meeting of the Alliance, composed of representatives of businesses in Pulaski to promote the town, will be at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Renaissance Restaurant.
