Appalachian Power Co. spokesman Don Johnson said in response to a story Tuesday that the company will not sell wholesale electricity to Virginia Power or any other utility by the end of the decade. A long-term contract between Apco and Virginia Power will expire in 1998 and will not be renewed, he said. Apco will, however, continue to sell power, if available, on an emergency and short-term basis to other utilities, he said. Apco is seeking approval for a 765,000-volt transmission line from West Virginia to Cloverdale and hopes to have it built by 1998 to reinforce its power system, he said.
