TULTEX OUTLET SHOPLIFTERS BEAT STORE CLERKS

Five people entered the Tultex Mill Outlet on Williamson Road, concealed merchandise under their coats and beat two of the store's clerks Tuesday evening.

Roanoke police said the assaults took place as the store was preparing to close.

As the group started to leave without paying, the two clerks confronted them.

Sandy Talbott was struck in the head with what police said appeared to be brass knuckles. Dennis Armitage suffered cuts to the bridge of his nose and the back of his head.
