E. DEAL TOMPKINS has been named vice president for college advancement at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg.

Tompkins, a native of Vinton, is vice president for development for Mary Washington Hospital MediCorp and executive director of the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation.

He is the son of Rebecca J. Tompkins and the late Joseph B. Tompkins Sr. of Vinton.

Tompkins is a former Roanoke-area businessman and a former member of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors. In his new position, Tompkins will be responsible for the development of alumni and publications programs at the college.

\ THE BANK OF BUCHANAN has announced several management-level promotions.

In the Buchanan office, Michelle A. Alexander has been promoted from management trainee to marketing officer and Community Reinvestment Act officer, and Brenda G. DeHaven has been promoted to bank officer.

In the Daleville office, Judy C. Dillon and Shirley B. Lambert have been named mortgage loan officers, and Andrew T. Shotwell has been promoted from assistant cashier to assistant vice president and named Daleville Branch manager.

\ ROANOKE COLLEGE has given Distinguished Service awards to Ann Johnson and Jean Rosendahl, both of Salem, and Jerry Overton of New Castle.

The awards are given annually to staff members for excellence in the individual's position, a record of outstanding accomplishment, loyalty and dedication to the college and service to the college community.

Johnson, a staff member for 14 years, is senior housekeeper. Overton, with the college since 1965, is supervisor of plant operations. Rosendahl has been administrative assistant to the vice president and dean of the college.

\ LORICE BENNETT has been named Employee of the Year for 1993 by Camelot Hall Nursing Home in Salem. Bennett, a certified nursing assistant, has worked for the nursing home since 1987. A graduate of William Fleming High School, she received her nursing training at Virginia Western Community College.
