The county will try to reduce the cost by seeking a $7,500 Virginia Humanities Foundation grant and doing some of the carpentry work with county staff labor, if available.
The design on the American Indian exhibit is to be completed by the designing firm of John Jager, who was interviewed by the courthouse exhibits committee before his selection. The exhibit will be installed within six months, at a cost of up to $12,000.
The rest of the work is to be finished within 90 days of design approval. It includes natural resource displays on the second floor, pictures of judges and other county officials in the adjoining brick courthouse now being renovated, and continuation of the Stepping Stones in Time geological exhibit on the Old Courthouse stairway.
The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors approved the work at its meeting Monday night. This will complete the major part of the earlier commitment to the Richardson Foundation, which provided $20,000 in matching funds, for carrying out courthouse exhibits.
