BULLDOGS ROMP

Michael Martin and Manti Venable combined for 42 points as Martinsville whipped Dan River 78-51 in a Piedmont District high school basketball game Wednesday night.

Martinsville (10-3, 9-2) used a 21-9 second period to take control. Martin led the Bulldogs with 22 points and Venable added 20.

Wade Thomas led Dan River with 16 points. \

Galax 41

GALAX - Will Dodson scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter as the Eagles blasted the Maroon Tide in a Mountain Empire District game Wednesday night.

Rocky Gap took a 19-5 lead after one quarter and was helped by 28 turnovers from Galax (3-4, 3-6).

Dale Martin added 13 points for the Eagles. Ken Houtz led the Maroon Tide with 16 points. \

Fieldale-Collinsville 54

Gretna 51

GRETNA - The Cavaliers trailed by three points with two minutes to play in the Piedmont District game Wednesday night, then came back for the win.

Brian Alley led Fieldale-Collinsville with 11 points and William Merritt scored a game-high 16 points for Gretna. The Hawks turned over the ball 20 times. \
