Christiansburg dentist DR. DEE DANNER recently won second place in the Carolina Balloon Association 1993 Championship competition. Danner flew his hot-air balloon, nicknamed Carousel, in the yearlong competition against other balloon pilots. He also competed in the West Virginia Mountaineer Balloon Festival in Morgantown, W.Va., winning one of the competitive flights and placing fourth overall.

Blacksburg auctioneer LARRY LINKOUS was elected president of the Virginia Auctioneers Association at the annual convention in January. Linkous was first runner-up in the annual Virginia State Champion Auctioneer Contest and 4-H Benefit Auction, held in Roanoke.
\ DONNA BOONE-CALDWELL, Blacksburg town clerk, was awarded the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She completed the program through Old Dominion University in Norfolk. She also took courses through Virginia Tech. She is one of 45 Virginia municipal clerks to hold this honor.
Former Del. JOAN MUNFORD of Blacksburg was chosen Munford as the Virginia Vocational Association's Legislator of the Year for 1993. She received the award from POSEY JONES, past president of the VVA and agricultural science teacher at Blacksburg Middle School.
\ RICHARD DAUB, EDWARD GREEN and RON RORDAM, members of the Blacksburg Planning Commission, and ADELE SCHIRMER, director of planning, were among the graduating class of the 16th Virginia Certified Planning Commission's program in December. The program provides new and veteran planning commission members with the latest information in their field of work.
\ LORI BALCOM, KAREN BISSINGER, SUSANNAH FRANCIS, KATHLEEN SADLER, KELLY STIMPSON and DEDE STONE recently completed pledge training for the Elliston Iota Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
