OBIT--BROWN, CALVIN EVERETT
BROWN, Calvin Everett, 76, of Altavista, formerly of Rocky Mount, died
Tuesday, January 25, 1994 at 8:30 p.m. in Lynchburg General Hospital. He had
been in declining health for the past year. He was born on December 26, 1917,
in Franklin County, a son of the late Everett Brown and Cordia (Zeigler)
Brown. He lived most of his adult life in Altavista. Before retirement he was
a furniture designer for the Lane Company of Altavista for 47 years. He served
his country in the Sea Bees during World War II and was a faithful and active
member in the Altavista VFW. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean
Chittum Brown of Altavista; and one brother, Clifford Brown of Rocky Mount. He
was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Brown. Also, he leaves devoted
brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as
a host of friends. There will be no formal visitation, but those desiring may
pay their respects at Williams Funeral Service, Route 11, North, Lexington.
Mrs. Brown will receive friends at the home of her sister, Mrs. McClung Austin
of Raphine. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January
29, 1994 in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel, Lexington, with the Rev. Eli
R. Layne officiating. Interment, with Military Honors by the Morris-Dillard
VFW Post #4165 and DAV Chapter #46, both of Altavista, will follow in Mt.
Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Steeles Tavern. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Altavista Rescue Squad or to the Rescue Squad of
your choice.
