The loss was the Highlanders' first in league play and dropped them into third place in the Pioneer standings behind Parry McCluer (3-0 district) and Covington (6-7 overall, 4-1 district).
Glenvar (6-4, 3-1) had a chance to tie at the buzzer, but Nick Varney's 3-pointer wouldn't drop.
The Highlanders hurt themselves by shooting only 47 percent on free throws, including two key misses in the final 15 seconds, and committing 26 turnovers.
Jones led the Cougars with 24 points, including three 3-pointers. Rogers had 20 points, and Corey Hunter added 13.
Brad Melton paced Glenvar with 17 points. David Robinson contributed 13, and Josh Williamson added 10. \

LEXINGTON - Rockbridge County senior Marty Early scored the 1,000th point of his career, but the Wilcats fell to the Terriers in a Blue Ridge District game.
Michael McGuike scored 23 points, including six 3-pointers for William Byrd (7-5, 2-2), which led 43-27 at halftime. Matt Bryant added 18 points, Chris Childress 14 and Donald Childress 13.
Early finished with a team-high 17 points and has 1,003 career points. Michael Chambers added 15 points and Martin Mayercheck 12 for Rockbridge (5-5, 0-4). \

ROCKY GAP - Guard Patrick Bailey sank three 3-pointers to start the fourth quarter as the Green Wave surged for 28 fourth-quarter points to beat the Eagles in a Mountain Empire District game.
Bailey, who finished with a game-high 31 points, keyed a Narrows offensive run that snapped a 47-47 tie after three quarters. The Green Wave (2-7, 1-5), which shot 60 percent in the second half, got 12 points and 11 rebounds from center Norman Perkins.
Joe Cromer paced Rocky Gap (3-10, 3-8) with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

FORT CHISWELL - Jody Burnett scored 22 of his 31 points in the second half and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (4-7, 4-6) to a Mountain Empire District victory over the Spartans (3-7, 3-5). Fort Chiswell trailed 30-26 at halftime before rallying. Shannon Jonas added seven points, six rebounds and seven blocks for the Pioneers. Aaron Myers led Giles with 27 points. \

GALAX - Freshman guard Wes Self scored 21 points, including nine on 3-pointers, to lead the Blue Devils past the Maroon Tide in the Mountain Empire District. Keith Weatherman had 13 points and Bryan Boyer added 10 for Grayson County (12-3, 10-2). Stevie Grimes led Galax (3-7, 3-5) with 16 points, and Jeff Ross had 10 points. \

SHAWSVILLE - Shannon Havens scored 27 points as the Rockets (6-6, 5-4) held off the Shawnees (0-11, 0-9) in a Mountain Empire District game. Shawsville closed to three points down with 2 1/2 minutes left, but Bland made seven of nine free throws the rest of the way, including a 4-for-4 performance by David Lambert, who finished with 11 points. Darrell Bibb scored 19 points, Jeremy Nichols 16 and Tommy Jones 12 for Shawsville. \

DRY FORK - Khris Law's all-around evening lifted the Trojans to an upset of the Lancers in a Piedmont District game.
Law had 32 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and four steals for Tunstall (7-7, 7-5). Law made four of eight 3-point attempts.
Chris Walton added 17 points and 10 rebounds, Kuan Breedlove had 13 points and Hubert Adkins 12 points and 12 rebounds
Darrel Wilson had 23 points for Laurel Park (11-4, 10-2), which pulled to six points down with three minutes left but could get no closer.
Warrick Scott had 12, Girand Foster 11 and James Millner 10 for Laurel Park. \

BASSETT - Tyree Hairston scored 20 points as the Bengals (5-8, 5-6) dumped the Cavaliers in (7-8, 7-5) a Piedmont District game.
Bassett helped itself by making 17 of 26 free throws, including 10 of 13 in the fourth quarter.
Fieldale-Collinsville was 24-for-74 on field-goal attempts. Ben Seay had 17 points for the Cavaliers, and Shane Donovant had 13.
Chris Hairston had 14 points for Bassett, Steve Pilson added 11 and Brad Kaufman had 10. \

CHATHAM - Mike Martin poured in 35 points, including 20 in the first half, as the Bulldogs (11-3, 10-1) topped the Cavaliers (3-10, 1-9) in the Piedmont District. Manti Venable added 17 points for Martinsville. Jeremy Clark and Derick Logan scored 11 apiece for Chatham, and Maurice Chalmers added 10.

MAGNA VISTA - Mac Inge and Tony Holmes split the scoring load as the Warriors (9-3, 9-3) won a Piedmont District game over the Hawks.
Inge had 20 of his 22 points in the first half as he made five of seven 3-point attempts. Tony Holmes scored all of his 22 points in the second half, including 17 in the third quarter.
William Merritt's 35 points and 10-for-11 free-throw shooting couldn't save Gretna (3-10, 3-8). \

RURAL RETREAT - The Indians took an early lead under junior varsity coach Dean Rhea, subbing for Russell Kelly, but were doomed by a nine-point second quarter in the Hogoheegee District loss to the Pioneers.
Ben Hilton had 19 points and Brian Sword added 18 for Lebanon (7-4, 5-1).
Bradley Guynn had a team-high 13 points for Rural Retreat (6-3, 5-3).
Kelly missed the game because of a death in his family. \

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Curtis Staples hit seven of 11 3-point attempts and led Oak Hill Academy to an 88-63 victory over Dunbar High School of Lexington, the No. 1-ranked team in Kentucky.
Staples, a guard from Roanoke, finished with 28 points for Oak Hill (22-1). Alex Sanders added 22 points and Mark Blount had 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks. Shane Carnes had nine assists and five steals to go with eight points.
Randy Smith's 16 points led Dunbar (14-4). \
