ROANOKE GETS SOME AIR TIME

WROV (1240 AM) has announced it will carry three Roanoke College men's basketball games in February, starting with Thursday's home game against Bridgewater at 7:30 p.m.

The Maroons have not had a game broadcast in six years.

Jim Carroll, WROV's sports director, will call the games. Carroll's high school broadcast partner, Jerry English, and former Roanoke coach Charlie Moir will handle the analysis.

In addition to Thursday's game, WROV will air Roanoke's Old Dominion Athletic Conference games with Hampden-Sydney. The first is 3 p.m. Feb. 5 at Hampden-Sydney, and the second will air on a 2 1/2-hour tape delay Feb. 19 from the Bast Center. That game will follow the Virginia-North Carolina broadcast.

In other sports in the region:

VMI's basketball game against East Tennessee State on Monday in Johnson City, Tenn., has been rescheduled for Feb. 16. Tip-off will be 7:30 p.m.

The change was made to allow East Tennessee State to make up its game against Furman which was postponed Jan. 17 because of bad weather.

In Blacksburg, William Fleming's Dominick Milner won the boys' long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 11 inches at the Virginia Tech High School Invitational track and field meet.
