IN SERVICE

Army Spec. JOSHUA A. UNDERWOOD has been decorated with the Army Achievement Award.

The medal is awarded to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage or other outstanding accomplishments.

Underwood is a power generation mechanic stationed in Germany. He is the son of Timothy W. Underwood of Elliston.

Those recently being promoted include:

Air Force Chief Master Sgt. DENNIS R. THOMPSON has just been promoted to that rank while stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Thompson serves as a recruiting superintendent. He is the son of Glenn W. and Nora C. Thompson of Riner.

Those recently completing basic training include:

Navy Seaman Recruit KENNETH D. PERDUE, whose former guardian is Joyce P. Griggs of Narrows; he completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Fla.

Air Force Airman BRENT A. PACK, son of Alan L. Pack of Pearisburg, who graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Those recently completing specialized training include:

Air Force Airman CHAD R. GRISSO, son of Ray L. Grisso of Shawsville, who graduated from the airlift aircraft maintenance specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Air Force Airman SCOTT W. LUTZ, son of Robert W. Bishop of Christiansburg and Marion W. Lutz of Dublin, who graduated from the tactical aircraft maintenance specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.
