The collection sold Saturday was assembled by Bertram K. Little and his wife, Nina Fletcher Little, of Brookline, Mass.
The 432 lots sold Saturday, which came to market following the Littles' deaths in 1993, were "the most significant collection of American folk art in private hands," Druckman said.
Fetching the highest price was a pair of portraits believed to be painted by Reuben Moulthrop, who lived from 1763 to 1814. The portraits sold for $745,000 and were acquired for the Museum of American Folk Art in New York. - Associated Press
