MONTVALE MAN STRUCK BY VAN ON U.S. 460

A Montvale man was struck and injured by a van early Monday as he tried to cross U.S. 460.

Robert Forgie, 26, suffered head and pelvic injuries. He was listed in critical condition in Roanoke Memorial Hospital's neuro-trauma intensive care unit Monday night, said a nursing supervisor.

The accident occurred at 3:35 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 460 and Virginia 697, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. An investigation indicated Forgie had been drinking.

A member of the Montvale Rescue Squad said the van's driver couldn't stop when Forgie began to cross the highway.
