The Mountaineers outscored the Cavaliers 27-19 in the final eight minutes to break away from a 46-46 tie through three quarters. Alleghany did most of its damage inside, taking advantage of three Lord Botetourt players saddled with four personal fouls.
Todd Wheatley added 16 points, Jermaine Winston 15 and Todd Crawford 14 for Alleghany.
Shannon Williams paced Lord Botetourt (7-4 overall, 1-3 district) with 26 points. Gabe Sander added 12 and Ryan Salvi 10.
\ Covington 64\ James River 60
COVINGTON - Van Rogers scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half to lead the Cougars to a come-from-behind Pioneer District victory over the Knights.
James River led by five points at halftime and led 50-49 with 5:15 left. But a 3-pointer by Rogers put the Cougars (7-7, 5-1) on top 52-50, and they led the rest of the way.
James River outshot Covington 54 percent to 38 percent field and outrebounding the Cougars 38-24. However, the Knights committed 26 turnovers to Covington's 10.
Brian Shorter led James River with 23 points, and Jason Peery added 16.
Roanoke Valley Christian 86\ Hargrave 76
The Eagles withstood a 3-point barrage by Hargrave to win the Virginia Independent Conference game.
Hargrave (3-9, 2-6) made 13 3-pointers, including six by Shayam Rangan and five by Billy Reid, but still came up short. Reid finished with 31 points and Rangan had 20.
Billy Fluker's 26 points paced RVC (6-9, 4-4), which led by 25 points in the second half. Josh MacDermod had 13 points and nine assists for the winners.
\ North Cross 76\ Lynchburg Christian 64
LYNCHBURG - Monty Smith scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half as the Raiders bit the Bulldogs in the Virginia Independent Conference.
Marcus Cardwell added 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for North Cross (7-6, 6-2). John Prillaman scored 14 points, and Williams Watkins added 11.
Tom Terzakes and Tracy Richardson led LCA (6-8, 4-5) with 15 points apiece.
\ Mercer (W.Va.) Christian 80\ Roanoke Catholic 58
MERCER, W.Va. - Hot-shooting Mercer bolted to an 18-point lead after one quarter and buried the Celtics in a non-district game. Mercer (9-3) shot better than 70 percent and hit eight 3-pointers in handing Roanoke Catholic its eighth loss in 14 games. Matt Miller paced the Mercer with 24 points. Jemarh Patterson had 23 for Catholic.
