OBIT BENNETT, BASIL N.
BENNETT, Basil N., ("Bas"), of Smith Mountain Lake-Wirtz, passed away
Monday, January 31, 1994 in a local hospital. He was a U.S. Army Captain
during WW II and served in the European Theatre. He retired from the Army
Reserve in 1957. He was employed by American Electric Power in New York and
Appalachian Power in Huntington, WV. and Roanoke for 25 years before becoming
a Civil Service employee with the Department of The Navy in Yorktown, Va. He
retired from the Department of the Navy in 1978. Mr. Bennett was a graduate of
Marshall University and did Post Graduate work at New York University.
Surviving are his wife, Neffie Anderson Bennett; daughter and son-in-law,
Teresa Terri and Scott Bondurant; sister and brother-in-law, Kenwardine and
Hubert Felix, Knoxville, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that
memorials be made to the Scruggs Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 67, Wirtz, Va.
24184. Funeral service will be private. The family will receive friends from 2
to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel.
