OBIT HICKS, HELEN GLADYS

HICKS, Helen Gladys, 68, of Redwood, died Sunday, January 30, 1994. Mrs. Hicks was a daughter of the late George W. and Annie B. Chitwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Hicks, and a brother, Albert Chitwood. She was a member of the Redwood United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hicks is survived by five sons and three daughters-in-law, Danny Clifton Hicks, Clayton Emerson and Marsha Hicks, all of Redwood, Ricky Lee and Lisa Hicks, Rocky Mount, Charles Allen and Maria Hicks, Martinsville, Jeffrey Lynn Hicks, Roanoke; four daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda Darnell Hicks, Sandra Diane Smith, both of Rocky Mount, Ramona Kay and Johnny Holley, Ferrum, Cynthia Marie Haynes, Penhook; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Edna and Jesse Doyle, Martinsville, Dorothy Combs, Danville; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roscoe Chitwood, Collinsville, Lawrence and Phyllis Chitwood, Stuart, Eugene and Sammye Chitwood, Martinsville, James Chitwood, Columbus, Ohio, Randolph and Janice Chitwood, Stanleytown; also 12 grandchildren; 3 stepgrandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Campbell, Lalar Altice, both of Redwood, Ruby Hicks, Rocky Mount; three very special friends of the family, Ronnie Barrett, William Turner, William Quinton Overton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 1994, at the Redwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles H. Comer, the Rev. Jackie Spence, the Rev. Gary Hoffman and the Rev. Eugene Chitwood officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, where the family will be from 7 until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Redwood United Methodist Church, Rt. 40 East, Redwood, Va. 24146; or the Glade Hill Rescue Squad, Rt. 1, Box 82, Glade Hill, Va. 24092.
