Federal-Mogul Corp., Southfield, Mich.-based operator of an engine bearings plant in Blacksburg, on Monday reported 1993 earnings of $40.1 million, or $1.13 per share, compared to a loss of $83.7 million, or $3.94 per share, in the previous year.
Fourth-quarter earnings were $9.8 million, or 26 cents per share, up from $5.3 million, or 14 cents per share, for the 1992 period.
Net sales for the year totaled nearly $1.6 billion, up $311 million from 1992. Net sales for the quarter were $393 million, up 10 percent.
Cooper Industries
Cooper Industries Inc., Houston parent of Crouse-Hinds electrical products plant in Roanoke, reported 1993 net income of $367.1 million, or $2.75 per share, up from $361.3 million, or $2.71, in 1992. Revenues were $6.3 billion, compared with $6.1 billion.
Fourth-quarter net income was $102.2 million, or 77 cents per share, up from $96.3 million, or 73 cents per share, in the 1992 quarter. Revenues were $1.6 billion for the final quarters of each year.
Xerox Corp.
Xerox Corp. on Monday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $577 million, or $5.63 a share, the result of a $813 million charge to cover the cost of its restructuring program, which it said would result in estimated pretax cost savings of more than $1 billion in coming years: $350 million in 1994, $700 million in 1995 and more in subsequent years. The loss compared with a loss of $736 million, or $7.80 a share in the fourth quarter a year earlier.
For the year, said it lost $126 million, or $1.84 a share, compared with a loss of $1 billion, or $11.29 a share, in 1992.
