OBIT STAPLES, BERTHA TURNER YOUNG

STAPLES, Bertha Turner Young, 80, of Rt. 1 Box 171, Fieldale, died Sunday, January 30, 1994, at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville and H.C. She was born in Franklin County, October 26, 1913, the daughter of Sam Henry Turner and Lucy Saunders Turner. She was a resident of Martinsville and Fieldale. She is preceded in death by her husband Muncie W. Young. Surviving are three daughters, Myrtle Y. Penn, Fieldale, Martha Y. Cheney, Detroit, Mich., Lucy Y. Leath, Martinsville; four sons, Joseph W. Young, Columbus, Ohio, Harry D. Young Sr., Naugatuck, Conn., Lensey T. Young, New Rochelle, N.Y., Vernon E. Young, Fieldale; one sister, Mary A. Young, Martinsville; one stepsister, Annie Mae Massey, Fieldale; one stepbrother, James E. Hairston, Fieldale; 45 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church, Union Hall, mother of the church, past church clerk and clerk of EPB Association. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the home of a daughter, Myrtle Penn and the deceased home at other times on state road 924. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 4, 1994 at 2 p.m. at Saint Paul High Street Baptist Church with Elders E.A. Edwards and Clarence Jamison officiating. Interment at Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville. Arrangements by Hairston Funeral Home.
