GILES MAN'S HAND CAUGHT IN MACHINE

A Giles County man is in stable condition after getting his hand caught in machinery at Wolverine Gasket Co. Monday.

David Eugene Meredith of Pembroke sustained a "severe hand injury when his left hand became entangled in a press machine," according to a news release from the Blacksburg Police Department.

Meredith, a die setter, was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital and later to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for surgery.

Jerry Olinger, Blacksburg's rescue squad captain, said Meredith's fingers were mangled in the accident.

Meredith was listed in stable condition at Roanoke Memorial on Tuesday afternoon, according to a nursing supervisor.

David Martin, human resources manager for Wolverine, said the accident will be investigated but as of Tuesday, plant officials weren't sure how it occurred.
