Spilman has been vice president and general manager of Bassett's Impact Division in Hickory, N.C., which includes the company's new $5 million polyester finish plant.
Spilman, a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the Executive Management program at Stanford University, joined Bassett management in 1984. Before returning to the company his family founded - his mother is Jane Bassett Spilman - Spilman worked six years for a furniture retailer in Houston.
In his new position, Spilman will relocate to the corporate offices in Bassett, where he will coordinate marketing and sales for the company's nine divisions. He will report to Glenn Hunsucker, president and chief operating officer.
Robert H. Spilman is chairman of Bassett, which had sales of $504 million last year, a 6 percent increase from 1992. Net income in 1993 was $25.9 million, or $1.79 per share, down 12 cents a share from 1992.
Directors were re-elected at the annual meeting Tuesday in Bassett.
