NAMES IN BUSINESS

RAYMOND SMOOT, vice president for finance and treasurer of Virginia Tech, has been appointed chairman of the board of directors for Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, Inc. JOE MEREDITH, director of the Corporate Research Center, has been appointed president, and JAMES COLE, secretary-treasurer. Cole is also director of business affairs and controller of the Virginia Tech Foundation and associate controller of Virginia Tech.

\ ARNOLD A. LAFON, president of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, represented local members at the 1994 American Farm Bureau Federation convention in Florida last month.

\ LaVERNE BLANKENSHIP of Christiansburg has been promoted to director of housing and resident services at Warm Hearth Village. KATHLEEN SADLER, administrative assistant for development and marketing, has been named employee of the quarter, and BRE SMITHSON, R.N. and director of Showalter Center, has been chosen to serve on the health issues advisory council for Del. Jim Shuler.

\ ANNETTE IRENE SPARKS has been promoted from branch manager to officer for Central Fidelity Bank at the University Mall branch in Blacksburg.

\ GENE B. WRIGHT, president and chief executive officer for Montgomery Regional Hospital, has been appointed to the advisory board for First National Bank of Christiansburg's Blacksburg branch office.
