KNIGHTS LOSE AT BUZZER, 70-69

Ricky Wright sank a 3-point shot at the buzzer to lift Rockbridge County to a 70-69 victory over James River in high school basketball Wednesday night in Buchanan.

James River (2-8) led 69-67 when Keith Bryant scored on the inside with 15 seconds left. The Knights missed a shot with seven seconds left before Wright's heroics ended the game.

Marty Early poured in 33 points for Rockbridge County, 24 in the first half.

James River fought back after trailing 23-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Knights got 16 points from Bryant, 13 from Isaac Minnis and 12 from Jason Peery.

BUENA VISTA - The Fighting Blues (11-1) used their superior height to dominate inside play, and they cruised past the Celtics (6-9) in a non-district game.

Parry McCluer led 22-6 after a quarter and 43-13 by halftime.

Deon Royer's 12 points led Roanoke Catholic.
