I-66 GROUP TO MEET IN SALEM

An informational breakfast meeting on a proposed trans-America highway - or Interstate 66 - will be held Friday morning at the Salem Holiday Inn.

Walter Wildman, associate director of Interstate 66 Project Inc., based in Cap Girardeau, Mo., will talk about the proposed highway.

Under federal highway legislation, a multistate study is under way of a TransAmerica Transportation Corridor, which would link the ports of Norfolk, Va., with Los Angeles. The project, which could turn into a high-speed rail line rather than a highway, is also referred to as I-66.

Friday's meeting is sponsored by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce and the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce.

The breakfast buffet will begin at 7:30 and will cost $10. Wildman will speak at 8:10.
