OBIT FINNEY, EDSEL WRIGHT
FINNEY, Edsel Wright, 71, of Route 2, Penhook, died Wednesday, February 2,
1994, at his farm. Mr. Finney retired from the U.S. Army with 22 years of
service during which he served in Europe during World War II where he was the
recipient of a Purple Heart and he also served in the Korean Conflict. He was
a member of the Snow Creek Christian Church having served as an elder, was
Past Master of Snow Creek Lodge #90 A.F. & A.M., Past Patron of the former
Snow Creek Chapter #156 O.E.S., was a founding member of the Snow Creek Fire
Department and had served on the Board of Directors of Franklin Memorial
Hospital, First Federal Savings and Loan Association and Patrick Henry
Community College. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Pearson Finney; five
daughters and three sons-in-law, Sharon and Max Ward, Fort Scott, Kan.,
Patricia Ann Finney, Virginia Beach, Frances and Charles Hutchinson, Vinton,
Janet and James Middlemas, Afton, Kathy Finney of the home; his grandchildren,
Jennifer and husband, Martin Senser, Charles Hutchinson Jr., Jeffrey
Hutchinson, Lindsay Middlemas and Sarah Middlemas; four brothers, W. Leland
Finney, Tempe, Ariz., H. Fletcher Finney, Cathedral City, Calif., S. Ward
Finney, Penhook, Willard R. Finney, Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be
conducted Saturday 11 a.m. in Snow Creek Christian Church with the Rev. Berlin
Hanks officiating. Interment will follow in the Finney Family Cemetery. Those
desiring to may make memorials to the Snow Creek Christian Church or the Snow
Creek Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday
at Snow Creek Christian Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, 342 S.
Main St., Rocky Mount.
