OBIT MARTIN, NICK
MARTIN, Nick, 87, of Bassett, died Tuesday, February 1, 1994, at Franklin
Memorial Hospital, Rocky Mount. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his
father, Milton Martin, his mother, Margaret Lynch Martin, all of his brothers
and sisters by Milton Martin, and a son, Jesse Nick Martin. He is survived by
his wife, Veronica Ferguson Martin; six daughters, Mrs. Barbara M. Tatum,
Martinville, Mrs. Jeannette M. Crum, Henry, Mrs. Sharon M. Hall, Collinsville,
Diana M. Bailey, Ridgeway, Mrs. Brenda M. Gibson, Salem, Mrs. Theresa M.
Shepherd, Collinsville; four sons, Kermit W. Martin, Basset, Gary D. Martin,
Bassett, Barry K. Martin, Mechanicsburg, Pa., David R. Martin, Greensboro,
N.C.; 28 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one
stepgreat-grandson, one half brother, Frank Martin, Bassett; one half sister,
Essie Pegans, Altavista; a life long friend, Guy Delancey, Bassett; numerous
nieces and nephews. Mr. Martin was a native of Bedford County having lived in
Bassett for more than 60 years, he retired from Basset Industries after 39
years of service and Stanley Furniture Co. after 13 years of service. He was
an honorary member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club. The family will receive
friends at the home, Rt. 3, Bassett. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m.
Collins Funeral Home. Interment in the Martin Family Cemetery at Radford
Baptist Church, Bedford County with the Rev. Bobby McGhee, Pastor Chester
Fisher and the Rev. Randall Blackman officiating.
