EXPRESS' TOP SCORER CALLED UP TO AHL

Lev Berdichevsky, the Roanoke Express' leading scorer, was called up to the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

Adirondack, an affiliate of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and the parent club of the ECHL's Toledo Storm, signed the right wing to a 25-game tryout contract.

"Lev could be gone anywhere from three days to the rest of the season, depending [on his performance]," said Frank Anzalone, the Express' coach.

Berdichevsky, who had two goals and two assists in Friday night's 8-0 Roanoke romp at Huntington, ranks third in the ECHL in goals with 39.

With the promotion of Berdichevsky and the recent departure of defenseman Hughes Bouchard, the Express is down to 16 skaters - one under the league limit. Dave "Moose" Morissette, Roanoke's captain, is expected to return to the lineup soon after recovering from knee surgery. - Staff report
