OBIT FARTHING, MARIA DOVE

FARTHING, Maria Dove, 91, of Gretna, died Friday, February 4, 1994, in Gretna Health Care Center. Born October 9, 1902, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Alonza Jackson Dove and Almedia Worsham Dove. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a church leader, for many years. She was a graduate of James Madison University and a retired Teacher with the Pittsylvania County School System. She was married to George A. Farthing Sr., who predeceased her. Survivors include one son, George A. Farthing Jr. of Wytheville; one daughter, Dorothy F. Mills of Gloucester; one brother, Koy Dove of Altavista; two sisters, Dorothy Owen of Gretna and Alice Bowen of Chatham; four grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Midway Baptist Church, by the Rev. Lynn Marstin and the Rev. R. G. Rowland. Interment will follow in the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today (Sunday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home. Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
