PRESS GROUP HONORS NEWSPAPERS

The Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Potomac News of Woodbridge have been named winners of the Virginia Press Association's 46th annual W.S. Copeland Awards for journalistic integrity and public service.

Sweepstakes awards, for newspapers winning the most prizes for writing, graphics and makeup in their circulation divisions, were won by the The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, among daily papers with circulation greater than 50,000.

The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, won among daily papers with circulation between 20,000 and 50,000.

For the Copeland Award, the Times-Dispatch was selected from seven papers of over-30,000 circulation for its entry on race relations in Richmond. It was the paper's second Copeland Award.
